Yin Yoga is a slow, meditative practice that targets the body’s deeper connective tissues — the fascia, ligaments, and joints — through long, still holds. The practice is based on traditions of martial arts, This approach is grounded in a few simple but powerful principles. You begin by finding your edge — a place of mild, sustainable sensation rather than intensity or strain. Once you arrive, you settle into stillness, allowing the body to soften and the mind to quiet. From there, you hold the pose for time, usually several minutes, giving the connective tissue the slow, steady stress it needs to stay resilient, mobile, and well hydrated. When it’s time to come out, you release slowly, letting the tissues rebound and integrate the work. Because the practice is quiet and unhurried, people sometimes assume Yin will be easy — but the challenge is simply different. Instead of muscular effort or fast movement, you’re asked to stay, breathe, and witness your experience as sensation gradually unfolds. It’s not a “hard” class or an “easy” one; it’s a practice of presence, patience, and deep internal listening. Yin invites you to slow down, meet yourself where you are, and allow time, gravity, and awareness to do the work.
